Our Journey: From Humble Beginnings to Industry Leaders
EGEN Event was founded in 2015 by two passionate individuals who shared a common vision: to elevate the event industry in Johor Bahru. Vickt Lim and Ryan Law met while working at separate event companies in Singapore and quickly realized they could offer something different to the Malaysian market. They wanted to create an event company in Johor Bahru that combined international standards with local understanding.
Those early days weren't easy. Operating from a small office in Taman Molek, our founders personally handled everything from client consultations to setting up chairs at venues. Their first major project was a 200-person corporate dinner for a local manufacturing company. The event went flawlessly, and word spread quickly. By the end of our first year, we'd organized 23 events across JB, from intimate birthday celebrations to mid-sized corporate functions.
The turning point came in 2017 when we secured a contract with a multinational corporation for their regional annual dinner. This 800-guest gala at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre showcased our ability to handle large-scale productions. We coordinated everything: LED wall installations, multicourse catering for diverse dietary needs, simultaneous interpretation services, and live entertainment from three countries. The event earned recognition in regional business publications and established EGEN Event as a serious player in the event management space.
As Johor Bahru experienced rapid growth, so did we. In 2018, we expanded our team to include specialized roles: dedicated event planners, technical production specialists, and client relationship managers. We invested in our own inventory of AV equipment, lighting rigs, and staging components. This meant we could control quality directly rather than relying entirely on external vendors. It also allowed us to offer more competitive pricing to our clients.
The pandemic in 2020 tested every event company globally, and we were no exception. However, while many businesses struggled, we saw opportunity. We quickly pivoted to virtual and hybrid events, investing in streaming technology and learning new platforms. We helped dozens of companies transition their annual dinners, conferences, and team building activities online. Many clients told us we kept their corporate culture alive during those challenging times. This adaptability strengthened our relationships and opened new service lines that continue today.
Today, EGEN Event operates from a purpose-built facility in Taman Desa Tebrau. Our team has grown to include 15 full-time professionals and a network of trusted freelancers we call upon for larger events. We've delivered over 500 successful events ranging from intimate 20-person gatherings to productions with thousands of attendees. Our client list spans industries: technology firms, manufacturing companies, government agencies, educational institutions, hospitality groups, and countless families celebrating life's special moments.

Vickt brings 12 years of event industry experience to every project. Before co-founding EGEN Event, he managed large-scale corporate events for multinational companies in Singapore. His strength lies in conceptualizing creative themes and ensuring flawless execution. Vickt personally oversees major productions and loves the challenge of bringing ambitious visions to life.
Clients appreciate Vickt's calm demeanor even when managing complex logistics. He's known for thinking three steps ahead, anticipating potential issues before they arise. Outside of work, Vickt enjoys photography and often captures behind-the-scenes moments at events.

Ryan Law
Co-Founder & Operations Director
Ryan's background in hospitality management and event coordination spans over a decade. He handles the operational side of EGEN Event, managing vendor relationships, logistics coordination, and team development. His meticulous attention to detail ensures nothing falls through the cracks, from permit applications to final invoice reconciliation.
Known for his negotiation skills and extensive network throughout Johor Bahru, Ryan secures the best rates and priority service from venues and suppliers.
